What is the difference between science and technology?
The terms science and technology are frequently misunderstood for synonyms. In contrast, we uncover undiscovered things in science, but we build a whole new product in technology.
Planets and stars are discovered and named in science whereas technology (telescope) forms magnified images of distant objects. In simple words, technology is the application of science in the real world.
Let’s take a closer look at the difference between science and technology.
What is Science?
According to the Oxford English Dictionary, science is the intellectual and practical activity encompassing the systematic study of the structure and behavior of the physical and natural world through observation and experiment.
Science is the methodological exploration of new information through observation and experiments. It focuses on the proper data collection procedure.
It is also all about learning natural phenomena and understanding why they occur, such as why the sky is blue? Why do leaves turn green? What causes rain to fall? What are the rainbow’s colors? What is the process by which plants produce food? The list goes on.
Engineering and medicine, for example, make use of current scientific facts and knowledge for practical reasons. This phenomenon is called applied science.
Some examples of branches of science are biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, geology, and astronomy.
What is Technology?
Technology is the process of putting scientific knowledge into practice for various reasons. The technology concentrates on the proper outcome of doing the action.
The purpose of inventing something is accomplished through an ongoing process. For example, the internet’s invention has enabled us to speak with people all over the world while sitting in one corner of our room.
We are surrounded by items that were made possible by technology, whether we are working, communicating, traveling, manufacturing, securing data, conducting business, or practically anywhere else.
Technology has the potential to be both beneficial and detrimental. Inventing anything, for example, raises our level of living by making our lives easier. On the other hand, it also makes us sluggish and unhealthy.
Elon Musk of Tesla, Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook, Jeff Bezos of Amazon, Bill Gates of Microsoft, and others are today’s most influential tech CEOs. Based on the knowledge they obtained from scientists, they have generated undeniable worth in our lives.
Difference Between Science and Technology: Science VS Technology
|Science refers to the exploration of new knowledge methodically through observation and experimentation.||Meaning||Technology refers to the application of scientific knowledge for various purposes.|
|Always useful||Effects||Can be useful or harmful|
|Analysis, deduction and creation of theory.||Method of Evaluation||Design, invention and production.|
|Remains same||Changeability||Continuously changing|
|Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Astronomy etc.||Examples||Biotechnology, nuclear technology, nanotechnology, information technology etc.|
In conclusion, we can say that science and technology are intimately connected. Science has aided us in learning about the things that exist in the cosmos and making predictions about future events whereas technology has helped us in simplifying work.
If we ignore the difference between science and technology, we may see that there are a lot of similarities as well. Like, technology is the application of science in both its pure and compound forms. Furthermore, science is concerned with theories, whereas technology is concerned with methods.
Finally, keep in mind that technology has some bad aspects and should be avoided.
