We’ve all heard of 4k Blu-Ray, which are the successors to Blu-Rays, but what exactly is 4K Blu-Ray? And, if they’ve been superseded, why are Blu-Ray discs still in use? Is Blu-Ray still superior in some ways? We’ll go over that in more detail in the next sections.
What Is Blu-Ray?
Blu-ray is a digital disc storage format, similar to CD and DVD, that allows you to store and play large amounts of data in high-definition.
It was primarily designed to store high-definition videos, which were previously impossible to store using DVD technology.
The name “Blu-ray” stems from the fact that it reads the disc using a blue laser, which allows for higher data density than DVD, which uses a red laser. It is recommended and produced for high-definition(HD) videos.
The storage capacity of Blu-ray discs is 25GB of data in single layer. It is obviously larger than previous disk formats.
Blu-ray discs are the same size as CDs and DVDs before them, but they can’t be played on standard CD or DVD players; instead, you’ll need a Blu-ray disc drive. However, the top Blu-ray players can also play CDs and DVDs, providing some backwards compatibility.
What Is 4K Blu-Ray?
Ultra HD Blu-Ray, or 4K Ultra HD, is another name for 4K Blu-Ray. 4K Blu-Rays are simply Blu-Rays that output movies and TV shows in 4K quality rather than the conventional HD resolution used by standard Blu-Rays.
A 4K Ultra HD Blu-Ray disc has a substantially larger capacity than a conventional Blu-ray disc, allowing it to store Ultra HD movies. The resolution of 4K Blu-ray is 3840 x 2160 pixels.
4K Blu-Ray has double the horizontal and vertical resolution of 1080P Blu-Ray. In the battle of 4K Blu-Ray vs Blu-ray(1080P), 4K must be the winner in terms of visual pleasure.

After comparing the difference between Blu-Ray and 4K Blu -Ray specification we came to the decision that they are quite different from one another in terms of storage, capacity and picture quality.

While Ultra HD formats are the future of the high-resolution market, they will not make your HD Blu-Ray collections outdated.
